Lee –
My name is Lee and I got to experience going through Tabor House. It was one of the main things that helped my recovery, especially at the beginning. Just to be around a group of people who understood where I was at on my journey and didn’t judge me, to have the daily groups, weekly counselling sessions and most importantly for me was the teaching on how to live and how to be responsible for the house and be accountable for my own recovery in a safe environment. I recommend Tabor House to anyone who is trying to ‘trudge the road of happy destiny’.

A Brilliant place, the best decision of my life was to attend Tabor House, the right step in early recovery.

Living in Tabor house was a Great experience for me personally. At times it was hard because of the things I had to work through but the overall results of what I got from the experience has stood to me. The help I got from the counselling team in the daily group and one to one sessions has helped me to stay clean for over a year now. This is longer than I have ever got in twenty five years of trying to stay clean. All the staff from the counselling team, support workers and the women in the kitchen are very welcoming and truly caring for the resident’s wellbeing. Working together with the team in the house and the residents I was living with has helped me to identify and work through things I didn’t even need to be worked on. Even though I found it hard at times I honestly wouldn’t change a thing about my experience there. I couldn’t recommend it enough to anybody that is looking to get help around addiction. I truly believe that my experience in Tabor house is the reason I’m still clean today and why I’m open and willing to keep living a drug free life that I now believe I’m worthy of. I’m grateful and thankful to the team at tabor house for the life I’m living today.

Eoin –

My name is Eoin. In 2019, after completing my primary treatment in Bushy Park, Ennis, I was recommended to continue my recovery journey through secondary treatment at Tabor House in Navan. I decided to take that step and spent 16 weeks there — and it turned out to be one of the most transformative and important decisions of my life.

Before entering treatment, my life was completely out of control. My addiction had taken over every part of me. I was constantly in trouble with the law, putting my family through heartbreak and worry, and living in complete chaos. My days were consumed by drinking and using, and my nights were filled with shame, regret, and fear of what I had become. I had lost all direction and self-respect, and I didn’t believe I could ever turn things around. My life was dominated by addiction — I was powerless, and I felt trapped in a cycle that I couldn’t escape.

Going to Tabor House was the turning point. It gave me the time, structure, and space to step away from that chaos and start rebuilding from the ground up. The environment there was unlike anything I had ever experienced — safe, supportive, and grounded in understanding and compassion. The counsellors, staff, and my peers were genuine people who truly cared and wanted to see me succeed. Through their guidance, I began to understand myself, my addiction, and the changes I needed to make.

During my time at Tabor House, I began to see that a new life was possible. For the first time in years, I had hope. I even applied for college while I was there, and six months after completing treatment, I started studying Quantity Surveying and Construction Economics in Limerick. I went on to complete my degree, take a year out for an internship in Dallas, Texas, and eventually return to the U.S. to work in Denver, Colorado. None of that would have been possible without the foundation I built in Tabor House.

The program didn’t just help me stop drinking and using — it helped me learn how to live again. It taught me responsibility, discipline, and self-respect. It gave me the tools to rebuild relationships and to live a meaningful life. The sense of community and support I found there was incredible. Many of the people I met during my time in Tabor House remain some of my closest friends today.

What makes Tabor House so special is that it gives people the time they truly need to recover. Too often, treatment is rushed — a few weeks and you’re sent back into the world without the proper foundation to sustain recovery. But addiction doesn’t develop overnight, and it doesn’t disappear overnight either. Real change takes time. Tabor House understands that. It gives people the opportunity to slow down, reflect, and do the deep work that lasting recovery requires.

I can’t speak highly enough of the staff — especially Sister Catherine, whose compassion and guidance had a profound impact on me. Every counsellor and staff member I met there played a part in helping me find a new path.

Looking back now, I can honestly say that Tabor House changed the entire course of my life. It took me from a place of hopelessness and despair to a life filled with purpose, stability, and gratitude. It gave me a second chance — and I’ve built everything I have today on the foundation I created there.

For anyone considering Tabor House, I could not recommend it highly enough. It is a truly life-changing place. It doesn’t just help you get sober — it helps you find yourself, rebuild your confidence, and create a future you can be proud of.
